Alright, are you ready to see some waltz dancing? Tonight "dancing with the stars" is supposed to have dance routines for the waltz, and paso doble. You can see an abc news report about at their site. Very exciting!
I love watching the waltz because it has a very fluid look to it, and it can be a bit tricky at the professional level to say the least. There is a lot of what is called "sway" which is the up and down motion on the floor that gives the 3/4 rhythm that very punctuated look. Although it is not hard for social situations, because the frame is a little more relaxed and the situations is not nearly as demanding, it does take practice to get a good looking sway going in your dancing.
For these reasons, watching professionals dance the waltz can be very entertaining. The have spent a log time to really nail the way this dance should look, and keep it fun and dignified. I am looking forward to watch tonight.
The other main dance that will be covered is the paso doble. This is a Latin dance (actually originating in France?) that some what models the look of a Spanish Bullfight. It is really wild to watch, especially if the dancers are very enthusiatic about the role. Here's a sample of the Paso Doble from a previous episode of "dancing with the stars" featuring Mario Lopez:
Pretty neat, huh? I liked the music in that number. I haven't heard too much Paso Doble music, but many people have told me it is their favorite dance. So it should be an exciting show!
